Mapping The Zeitgeist

In 1900-1919, The women wore a softer and more practical style. The one piece bathing suit was introduced. The clothing was highly decorated with lace and ribbons. Paul Poiret designed the hobble skirt. They wore 'practical' clothing for work, special monitoring clothes and 'bloomers' designed for bicycle riding by Amelia Bloomer.
In 1900-1919, electricity and the telephone were introuduced. Art, ballet and film impact designers. Modern fashion shows began. Women entered the workforce. Womens suffrage movement- right to vote.
They had the hourglass silhouette. Softer more feminine look. They wore long skirts, fullbust, rounded shoulders, clinched waist, pencil skirts, sheath dress, heels, gloves and hats. The teen movement was al about pleated wool circle skirts, sweater sets w/ peter pan collars. Saddle shoes and bobby cocks. Blue jeans and leather jackets.
Some families moved to the subrbs. The birth rate grew. "Rock-n-roll" and youth culture emerges. Medical and technological things advanced. There was teleision. 
They wore A-line silhouettes. The hemlines went mini, midi and maxi. There was flexible pants, pant suits for women, palazzo pants, wrap dress, hip hugger, and bell bottom pants. Jeans became a staple fashion. They usually wore their hairs long and straight with full bangs and fethered hair.
There was protest groups, gay movement, enviormental concerns and earth day. The womens movement gains strength. Development of the computer. Textile fiber advances.
